The MS Run the US "Team Jill" is a group of people who have put either a great amount of effort into planning, helping the future accomplishment of, or donated a minimum of $50 to MS Run the US Inc.
How "Team Jill" got Started:
I'm also not the only member of the family to push to find a cure for MS. My two sisters, April and Dawn, have been very active with raising money to FIGHT MS. They've volunteered for many MS bike and walk events since 2006, and most recently Dawn set up a fundraiser team called "Team Jill" for the MS walk in Wisconsin. Team Jill has been walking since 2008 to end MS!
About Jill E. Kumlien:
Jill has been diagnosed with MS for over 30 years now. Prior to MS, Jill was very active in arts, music, medicine, and athletics in her daily life. Although mentally she still holds onto those values, she can no longer physically express them. Watching my mother's fine motor skills & cognitive function deteriorate due to MS has been very painful. I cannot begin to imagine how painful it is for her to experience.
The beautiful part about my mother is no one can tell she's pained by these disabilities. On a day to day basis she is constantly praising the good fortune that she still has some of her abilities. Place her in a room of strangers, and she'll have everyone know her and love her within 15 minutes! She has always been the most social, cheerful, grateful, and bright person I have ever encountered.
From someone who has every reason to be angry, you will very rarely see her without a smile. What an amazing attribute! This tribute run across America is a small, small token to my gratitude towards my mother. And my thankfulness for being raised by someone who was dealt a tough hand, but someone who always sees the brighter side to everything.
