What is MS?…
I want to pose a the question: to you… What is MS? Some reading this may have live with the disease, some may have someone they love living with the disease, and then others may only understand MS by know the definition. But what is it MS? How do we describe it MS to others? And, is there more to learn about the disease and more to learn about those living with it MS every day?
My mom was diagnosed with MS four years before I was born. I’ve literally grown-up with this disease being a part of my day-to-day life, and I’m willing to openly admit that I learn something new about MS and how it affects my mom and others daily. In my mid-twenties I really started to listen and learn about the symptoms of MS and gained a deeper understanding of the habits my mom has developed as a byproduct of the disease. And, as a result I have developed an increased level of patience during her frequent trips to the bathroom or talking with me again and again about something we have already discussed. These habits transitioned from annoying to tolerable to compassion. It’s not easy to live with a disease, and I don’t think it ever will be, but the more I spend time with my mom and others living with MS the more I open my ears to their requests and my heart to their needs.
I urge, and even challenge you, to develop a deeper understanding of the disease we are all fighting to help cure by reading more on our site at: http://www.msruntheus.com/ms-facts/, by checking out the information and the MS 101 videos at: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/What-is-MS/Definition-of-MS, and by personally connecting with someone living with MS (other than yourself if you have it) to grow as an individual and MS Warrior!
